Why Is My Lock Beeping? Understanding Security Alarms on Your Smart Lock

If your smart lock suddenly starts beeping loudly or temporarily stops responding, don’t worry — this is usually a built-in security feature doing its job.

There are two different types of security alerts, and they work in different ways.

1. Tamper Alert (Anti-Tampering Protection)

The Tamper Alert is designed to protect the lock from physical interference.

This alarm will only trigger if:

  • The lock is powered on
  • All front screws are removed
  • The front panel is lifted off the door

This means someone would need to physically remove the outer panel to activate this alert.

It is designed to detect forced access attempts to the internal mechanism.

2. Too Many Attempts Alarm

This alarm is completely different.

It activates when five incorrect passcodes or fingerprints are entered.

When this happens:

  • The lock sounds a loud alarm for 30 seconds
  • The lock then becomes temporarily disabled for 90 seconds
  • Total lockout time: 2 minutes

This feature helps prevent someone from guessing codes repeatedly.

Important Things to Know

  • This alarm cannot be disabled in the settings
  • The 2-minute period cannot be shortened or changed
  • Turning off “Lock Sound” will NOT stop this alarm
(That setting only changes voice announcements like “Locked” or “Unlocked”)
  • Turning off Tamper Alert does NOT disable the Too Many Attempts alarm

This is a permanent security feature built into the system.

How to Reset the Too Many Attempts Alarm

If the lock is linked to your TTLock account:

  • An Administrator or eKey user can unlock the door using the app
  • This will immediately reset the alarm

This is the quickest way to regain access without waiting the full two minutes.

Why These Features Matter

These alarms are designed to:

  • Prevent forced access
  • Stop repeated code guessing
  • Protect your property automatically

While they may seem inconvenient at the moment they activate, they are there to keep your home or property secure.
