Offset Spindle Mechanism and Smart Lock Compatibility
How Offset Spindle Mechanisms Affect Smart Lock Compatibility
Some doors use an offset spindle handle system, most commonly found on uPVC and composite doors.
In these setups, the inside and outside handles do not share a single straight spindle.
Instead, the handles use separate spindles positioned at different heights, allowing the exterior handle or pad to operate independently from the interior lever.
Because of this design, offset spindle doors are sometimes incompatible with our smart locks.
How to Check Compatibility
You can quickly test whether your door is likely to work with our Slim Series smart locks.
Step 1 – Use the Top Spindle Only
Operate the door by using both handles on the top spindle.
Step 2 – Observe the Lock Behaviour
If all functions of the lock can be controlled by the TOP spindle alone, then there is a high probability that the mortice will work with our Slim Series smart locks.
If only the latch retracts, compatibility is unlikely.
Why This Test Matters
Our smart locks rely on the spindle movement operating both the latch and locking mechanism together.
Offset spindle setups sometimes separate these actions, which can prevent the smart lock from functioning correctly.
Key Point
If the top spindle retracts both the latch and the bolt, the door is likely compatible.
If it does not, the lock may not operate correctly.
