Lock Management Permissions Explained: Authorized Admin vs Admin in TTLock

One of the most important security questions customers ask is:

Who can actually manage my smart lock settings?

All Simpled smart locks are managed through the TTLock app.

Within the app, there are different permission levels that control who can manage the lock.

Only the Authorized Admin (Main Administrator) and assigned Admins can manage lock settings.

What Is the Authorized Admin?

The Authorized Admin (also known as the Main Administrator) is:

  • The first account that adds and registers the lock
  • The primary owner of the lock in the TTLock system
  • The highest permission level for that device

There can only be one Authorized Admin per lock.

This role has full control over:

  • Adding and deleting users
  • Creating and deleting passcodes
  • Adding and removing fingerprints
  • Managing cards/fobs
  • Adjusting lock settings
  • Viewing unlock records
  • Transferring ownership

In short, the Authorized Admin has complete control over the lock.

What Is an Admin?

An Admin is a secondary management user added by the Authorized Admin.

Admins can:

  • Create and manage passcodes
  • Add fingerprints and cards
  • View unlock records
  • Manage certain lock settings

However, Admins cannot:

  • Remove the Authorized Admin
  • Transfer lock ownership
  • Override the highest-level ownership permissions

Their access is powerful but still subordinate to the Authorized Admin.

How to Add Another Admin in the TTLock App

If you are the Authorized Admin and want to assign another Admin:

  1. Open the TTLock app
  2. Select the lock
  3. Go to Settings
  4. Choose Admin (or User Management, depending on app version)
  5. Select Add Admin
  6. Enter the email or account details of the person you want to assign

The invited user must have a TTLock account to receive admin permissions.

Once added, they will gain admin-level management access to that specific lock.

Why This Matters for Security

This structured permission system ensures:

  • Only trusted users can manage access
  • Ownership cannot be accidentally removed
  • There is clear separation between full ownership and delegated management

For rental properties, offices, and shared homes, this allows the owner to maintain ultimate control while delegating day-to-day management.
