Do I Need to Update My Smart Lock When the UK Clocks Change?
Why This Is Important
If your lock uses time-based features, the internal clock must match UK time accurately.
If it doesn’t:
- Timed passcodes may activate too early or too late
- Scheduled unlock periods may shift by one hour
- Access windows might not match your intended schedule
For customers managing cleaners, guests, rentals, or business access, this can cause unnecessary confusion.
The good news is that the system is designed to handle this — you just need to confirm it has synced correctly.
How the Time Updates Work
All of our locks are managed through the TTLock app.
When Daylight Saving Time changes in your area:
- You may receive a notification from TTLock about the time change
- The app follows the daylight saving settings based on your account location
However:
Tapping the “Enter” key on the alert message does not update the lock remotely.
Instead, the lock’s internal clock syncs when it communicates with the app.
How to Make Sure Your Lock Is Synced
To confidently confirm the time has updated:
If You Are Nearby (Bluetooth)
Unlock the lock via the TTLock app using Bluetooth.
This confirms communication between your phone and the lock, and the device will sync with the current daylight saving setting from your app.
If You Have a WiFi Bridge
If your lock is connected via a WiFi bridge:
Perform a remote unlock through the app.
Even though tapping “Enter” in the alert does not update the lock remotely, performing a remote unlock forces communication and appears to update the lock’s internal clock to match the TTLock account location settings.
This is the simplest way to ensure everything is aligned.
Do You Need to Manually Adjust the Lock?
No manual clock setting is normally required.
As long as:
- Your TTLock account location is correct
- Your phone time is accurate
- You perform an unlock (Bluetooth or remote via WiFi bridge)
The lock should sync correctly to the current UK time (BST or GMT).
